Dildos: What’s On Offer and How to use Them

If you’ve never used a dildo, they can seem like huge and unwieldy contraptions, but used correctly, they can provide great pleasure. If you’re thinking of investing in a dildo, read on for a guide to exactly what’s on offer and how to get going with using one.
Dildos come in all shapes and sizes, from small starter options, to larger models, single ended to double ended, realistic look to silicone concoctions, strap ons to hand held, and even more. There’s literally something for everyone, if only you look for it. For a first time buyer, the choice can be overwhelming, but as a general rule:

  • Small dildos (e.g. 6 - 7.5”) are ideal for first time use.
  • Realistic looking models are sometimes less off-putting than a gigantic purple monstrosity.
  • Single-ended dildos are a great way of pleasuring your partner.
  • Double-ended dildos take a bit of getting used to, but provide dual pleasure.
  • Strap-ons offer hands-free interaction and are either single or double-ended. Plus you can even get double ended strapless strap-ons now!
  • Anal prober dildos come in smooth or ribbed varieties – smooth is best for starters, then you can progress.

Using Dildos

It can be daunting to use a dildo for the first time, especially with a new-ish partner, but once you get the hang of it and overcome any nerves, you’ll both enjoy it! The key thing to remember is to use plenty of lubrication, whatever the size of the dildo. Even if a woman is really turned on, extra lubrication is recommended, to help the dildo slip in and out with ease.
As a guide, if you’re using it with a female partner, first apply lube – you only need a small amount, but ensure you rub it on the tip and down the shaft. Then slowly and gently part the entrance to the vagina with your fingers and slowly insert the dildo. Don’t use sudden jerky movements, but slowly insert it deeper until it feels comfortable.
Now it’s time to slide the dildo back and forth. Again, do it slowly at first, to ensure it’s comfortable and pleasant, then gradually increase speed. Ensure that your partner enjoys the whole experience – she should be able to adjust her position if she needs to and make sure she’s got no feelings of discomfort. Even though you won’t actually be able to feel when she’s about to climax, you’ll be able to tell. The contractions from her vagina will push the dildo out, often with quite a force!
Using strap-ons or double-ended dildos is a similar process. With strap-ons, you may feel more in control of providing pleasure, as it will depend on how you move your body too. Likewise, double-ended dildos can be a lot of fun, as you’ll both be experiencing waves of pleasure simultaneously.
The main thing to remember when using any sex toys is to ensure both partners enjoy the experience. Talk to your partner, check that they’re comfortable with everything, then relax and enjoy experimenting!
