Lubricants for All Types of Sex & Sex Toys
When shopping for a sex toy or trying a new sex act, it’s always recommended to use a lube. If you’re like most couples the biggest question is, “What kind of lubrication?”
Rest assured that lubrications for sex or sex toys are not a force to be reckoned with. But whether you’re using a lubricant for masturbation, sex with someone else, multiple partners, sex with a condom, sex using sex toys, anal sex, vaginal sex or all of the above … you need the right lubricant.
Water Based Lubricant
Water based is one of the most popular lubricants used because water based lubricant is compatible with just about any type of sex under the sun. Water based lubricants don’t stain, rarely cause any type of irritation, it’s safe to use with latex condoms and other birth control, and if it dries up during use, all you need is a spritz of water or saliva!
Water based lubricants contain de-ionized water, glycerin, propylene glycol, and other non-toxic ingredients used as preservatives. While water based lubricant may be a popular lubricant for sex, and lots of experienced people recommend it, it’s not the only type of lubricant.
Petroleum Based Lubricant
Most people choose a petroleum-based lubricant for a specific purpose. Petroleum based lubricant is great for anal sex or male masturbation, but there’s a downside.
Petroleum based lubrications should never be used with condoms, they are not compatible, and other forms of these lubricants include baby oil and Vaseline. People sometimes substitute lubricants with whatever’s lying around the house, and as far as safe sex goes, petroleum based lubricant should probably be avoided.
Petroleum based lubricant is prone to cause vaginal iritation; it does stain, and can be difficult to clean up. Petroleum based lubricants are great, they don’t dry up, but as with other things in life … there’s a time and a place to use this type of lubrication for sex.
Oil Based Lubricant
Most people that have allergies to commercial ingredients choose the homeopathic route by using natural oils such as nut or vegetable oils.
The great thing about oil-based lubricant is that it doesn’t cause any vaginal irritation; it’s great for anal sex, and even masturbation for males and females, even some sex toys.
Oil based lubricant can ruin latex so it can’t be used with latex condoms or most forms of birth control like diaphragms or cervical caps. It’s difficult to wash away, and can also stain fabrics.
Silicone Based Lubricant
If you’re not using latex sex toys, silicone based lubricant may be the most logical choice depending on your needs. Silicone based lubricant is extremely comparable with water based lubricant as far versatility goes, but silicone based lubes are waterproof.
Waterproof is great because silicone based lubricant can be used in water, plus it’s highly concentrated, and retains lubrication properties great.
Silicone based lubricant is safe to use with latex, condoms included, and other birth control devices.
It’s best to experiment with different types of lubricant because it’s likely you’ll like different lubes for different activities. Lubricants are relatively inexpensive, they last for a long time, can be stored near the bed for easy retrieval when needed, and the best part of searching for the right lubricant for sex, is experimentation … have fun finding yours!
